Yeah, well, I'm an idiot and got way ahead of my self. I talked with Verizon for about 2 hours this evening, and they have made up a trouble ticket on it. They are supposed to be calling me with a resolution. Hopefully they won't give me any trouble. What a moron.
Chaddafd, I would like to know the same thing. I have "Updated" it, but it goes to a disclaimer page and asks to accept it, and I do not want to move forward in fear I will get tagged for having it, and then being charged for it again.
Anyone, Please let us know what you have found by updating to v05.
no. it wont brick your phone if you follow it to the letter..the only thing you have to watch out for is when your in the file system..just dont delete anything...you can even talk on the phone while its backing up and restoring..
Did anyone get a EULA again? I did the hack, VZ Navigator was working fine. Then since yesterday instead of the normal startup i get the EULA. if i press yes does it re-subscribe me?
i did it and it worked but now im like hacker happey lol does it work the same way with the other apps like weather bug like do i have to go through the exactly the same process?
works with all subscription apps...ive got about 10...but funny thing is i got the eula for vz nav today....maybe they have to remind you every once in a while....i hope
normally they put the charge on immediately, then back it off when they see that you cancelled it shortly after. but you wont see it on the internet til the next billing cycle..you can always call to verify and say you tried it for an hour and didnt like it.
ill be calling them tomorrow..my bi-monthly bitching about my bill that always is a big surprise...it hasn't been about the hacks yet...just their gouging of the month stuff, whatever it is for the particular month.
hey I got the EULA about 2 or 3 days ago and I got charged 20.37.. dont know where the .37 comes from. It was 10 from nav 5 from email but it was supposed to be free and they gave me a credit for that but I told them that I did not download the VZNav so they thought it was a mistake.. they gave me a credit for next month but right now I took off VZNav, and I'm trying the hack again.. hopefully I wont get charged again... has anyone has had this happened to?
i got the EULA about 3 days ago; i did the accept and checked "my verizon" today and did not get charged -yet. in fact it shows that the app expired March 1st,which is about the time i did the hack.
like chad says, you cant go by the "my media" thing. you have to wait about a week and call them...but dont ask directly about vz nav. i always just ask why my bill seems hi and let them explain it to me..if they mention vz nav, just say you tried it for a few hrs or so and didnt like it so you removed it
Every time I try to back up the brew folder, unsubscribe to VZ Nav, and then restore the brew folder, I get errors and it stops restoring files. I have v9 firmware and bitpim version 1.0.7 official. I'm afraid to try it again because then I may have to re-download and pay for VZ Nav.
Actually, I take it back. I just did "Backup Entire Tree" on the brew folder, then did a "Restore" and it worked without error. I unchecked things like ringtones and pictures to save time. I'm sure none of these are changed. However, in this test, I did NOT unsubscribe from VZ Nav first. This way, I could just test the backup and restore without having to risk losing VZ Nav.
Another note - I made sure to turn the phone off prior to doing the restore.
I guess I could try it again, unsubscribing to VZ Nav, then repeating the restore. Hopefully it will work!
I did the hack over the summer and just got charged $9.99... I accepted the EULA so I am thinking that is it.
Can anyone tell me how to see if I am subscribed to VZ Navigator on My Verizon Homepage? I am going to try to backup the phone and cancel the subscription again but would like to see how I know I am still subscribed.
hey aalb1(and everyone else for this matter), I just checked My Verizon (click the my media icon, and then learn more, then get started), and sure enough my purchase date has been re-listed as 03/17/10, exactly when I accepted the EULA. Hmmmmmmm, wonder if one declined the EULA, would they still have the ability to run the app?... Kinda sticky situation if we want to maintain this app "unseen" and not get charged; and if we want to do the hack over again, then, there's a charge either way? Might it be possible to revert to an older backup, or...?
Yea mine says that is expired too, but i still keep getting charged :(
VZ Navigator Application Expired - 02/09/10
I called the first time i got charged and they told me they could see that the app was still installed on my phone... I duno what to do... i did followed the steps correctly... but canceled it thru my phone, and then called right after but the vz rep didnt see that i had subscribed yet. But I guess that didnt work I have the latest update of vz navigator now, and updated the EULA so i duno if that would prevent the hack for working again are you guys getting charged?
same for me. it showed on my as expired and when i called in and they said it's on. so i uninstalled it. i think they figured out a way to know if it is truly on your phone or not now. i waited 3 billing periods before i truly took it off.
OK, I went through all these motions and now reading that you guys are now being charged. How long after the install/hack before you all got the EULA? Is it a must to agreed to the EULA or is there a work around? Sounds as though some have got the EULA shortly after the upgrade to version 5. I really like the program, but, if I can avoid paying for it even better. Wouldn't mind panning out the $10 if I had to.
Curious to know it they figured it out by way of the upgrade to v.5. I started with v.5 and if this is the case, may have a free ride until v.6 is introduced.
Don't know for sure, but I think it happened when they started tracking individual data usage. A number of people noticed a new entry on their bill for data usage a few months back and then Nav went to V5. The impression I get is that prior to these changes if you had VZNav, legally or hacked, the network ignored the program's data use. Now Verizon seems to be very interested in everyone's data use and it seems to be able to flag suspicious use easier. Once again, not positive of this, just speculating.
I got a 9.99 data usage charge just last month. I have went thru the v5 hassel and if I have a charge next month I am cancelling the whole shebang. One of my employees has a Droid and can get several apps that navigate for FREE.
